Chinese Spare Ribs

Originating from the classics of American barbecue, Chinese Spare Ribs add their own twist with a hoisin sauce marinade giving it the sweet and savoury flavour, on top of the shiny glazed appearance.

Traditionally a Cantonese-style roasted meat, otherwise known as siu mei, one would typically see these hanging through the windows of Chinatown. But spare ribs themselves have a deeper history, with their name even coming from the German word rippenspeer, literally meaning ‘spear ribs’,  an homage to the traditional hog roasts on spits and spears. Spare ribs are enjoyed globally in various styles and the Chinese twist may just be right up your alley.
